nice to meet you
My name is Kylee Grace Schmuck.
I am a 25-year-old digital marketing specialist. I was born and raised here in Seattle and I can’t fathom leaving the PNW. I live with my boyfriend and our rescue pup, Skeeter, in a *Seattle sized* apartment in Wallingford.
I enjoy Crossfit, hiking, coffee, and lazy Sundays with my boys. Pet peeves include, but are not limited to loud chewing, messy laptop screens, and the sound of scratching. I’ve got a pretty sarcastic, dark sense of humor but I also bleed dad jokes accidentally.
I grew up dancing and I still take classes every now and then. I played pretty much every sport possible, until I had to choose (hint: definitely chose dance). I enjoy being active and movement is truly therapeutic for me.
Now, for the not so fun stuff. I’ve struggled with injuries and chronic pain since I was fourteen. After an (undiagnosed) hip injury (likely) occurred at a dance workshop, I searched for a diagnosis for my pain for four years, until I was eighteen. Senior year of high school I met my surgeon and was diagnosed with Femoral Acetabular Impingement and two (at the time) labral tears. Since then, I’ve had three surgeries and have been diagnosed with chronic pain, among a few other contributing issues.
I also began struggling with my mental health around the time I was diagnosed. I began developing signs of an eating disorder prior to my first surgery. Since then, I have undergone treatment for a variety of mental health issues such as anorexia, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
As a way to cope and recover from my disorders, I began writing and speaking out openly and authentically about my struggles. I have articles published on sites such as The Mighty and Odyssey, as well as the Project Heal blog.
I count myself (mostly) recovered from my eating disorder, and my hips are in a relatively ‘manageable’ place these days as well.
So yes, that’s the short version of my struggles. I hope you’ll stick around to learn more as I continue to write and feel free to ask any questions you may have. No real hard ones though please, okay?
